NEW DELHI: The Association of Unaided Higher Educational Institutions (AUHEI) in Delhi is protesting against the non-inclusion of Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University’s institutions/colleges from the Joint Admission Counselling (JAC) process.
The JAC is a centralized process that provides admission to various technical colleges and universities in Delhi, including Delhi Technological University (DTU), Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT, Delhi), Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW), and Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU).
The AUHEI believes that being part of the JAC will make it easier for students to apply to multiple colleges and universities through a single platform. They claim that students will be able to check their admission status in real time, and that all the necessary information will be available on a single platform. However, the GGSIP University has been excluded from the joint counselling process.
The AUHEI president and founder chairman of Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology, Dr Nand Kishore Garg, said, “Excluding the GGSIP University from the Common Counseling is illogical, unfair, unjust and grossly inconvenient to the students and their parents. Administratively also, it is unnecessary and unwise. It has also an adverse bearing on the quality of education.”
According to Mr. Garg, there is no explanation, justification, or rationale as to why GGSIP University has been excluded from the Joint Admission Counselling process, along with the other five institutions. He added, “In fact, as long back as 2015, this matter was discussed with the then Lt. Governor, Delhi, and the Department of Higher Education. It was agreed that the GGSIP University will be included in the admission counselling along with the other institutions of higher education of the Delhi Govt.”
The association is urging the Delhi government to adopt a logical and sensible system that benefits both the students and the institutions. They believe that including GGSIP University in the JAC process will simplify the admission process for students and provide a fair and just platform for all institutions of higher education in Delhi.
